McGuireWoods’ R. Andrew Austria was one of 10 associates selected for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) Prospective Partners Program. The selected associates will participate in program sessions held at the 2022 NAPABA Convention in Las Vegas from Nov. 3-6, 2022.
Now in its 12th year, the Prospective Partners Program aims to increase the number of Asian Pacific American partners at major law firms through introduction, mentorship and relationship building.
A member of the firm’s government investigations and white collar litigation practice in the Washington, D.C., office, Austria counsels clients in criminal, civil and administrative matters involving the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Internal Revenue Service, and other federal and state investigative agencies. He also helps government contractors address compliance issues related to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Joint Ethics Regulations and other federal gift and gratuities statutes.
Austria is committed to increasing diversity in the legal profession and serving his community. He mentors underrepresented law students pursuing judicial internships and clerkships through the American Bar Association’s Judicial Intern Opportunity Program and serves as a member of the Washington, D.C., Working Group. A former judge advocate in the U.S. Navy, Austria handles pro bono matters on behalf of service members, veterans and their families and serves as the pro bono coordinator for the firm’s Veteran Lawyers Network. For his efforts, Austria recently received McGuireWoods’ Pro Bono Associate Award.
The National Law Journal named Austria a “D.C. Rising Star” in its 2022 annual awards, which highlight lawyers and judges making a difference in the legal profession. He also was selected for inclusion on Best Lawyers’ 2022 “Ones to Watch” list recognizing the nation’s most promising attorneys for professional excellence in private practice.
