D.C. Office Hosts Just the Beginning’s Summer Legal Institute

On July 28, 2023, McGuireWoods’ Washington, D.C., office hosted the closing ceremony and networking reception for the 64 participants in the 12th annual D.C. Summer Legal Institute, sponsored by Just the Beginning – A Pipeline Organization (JTB). Firm attorneys, summer associates and guests attended, along with program participants and leaders.

Washington, D.C., partner Brandi Howard and Richmond partner Jackie Stone serve on the board of JTB, a nonprofit organization founded by federal judges. 

Over the past 30 years, JTB has offered pipeline programs aimed at inspiring young students and increasing diversity in the legal profession and judiciary. Each year, JTB presents the Summer Legal Institute, a multiday program designed to introduce high school students to the legal profession and expose them to careers in the legal field. Students work with judges, lawyers and law students, and participate in workshops centered around the legal field. 

“Your commitment to our mission and passion for making a difference in the lives of these young scholars have shone brightly in every interaction,” said JTB program manager Missy Jeje. “Your willingness to share your expertise, mentorship, and encouragement have left a profound impact on the scholars, helping them see the endless possibilities that lie ahead in the legal field.”
