Virginia Women in Public Finance recently recognized McGuireWoods Richmond
associate Anne Curtis Saunders as its 2022 Rising Star. The award was presented
as part of the organization’s annual
Founders' Awards.
The award recognizes up-and-coming women in the field of public finance in
Virginia who have been in the industry less than 10 years. The winner is
selected by the founding members of Virginia
Women in Public Finance, the local chapter of a national nonprofit,
educational and professional networking organization for women in the public
finance industry. Membership includes state and local government issuers,
not-for-profit issuers, investment bankers, attorneys, financial advisers,
rating agency analysts, trust officers and municipal market investors.
Saunders handles public finance transactions, serving as bond counsel and
counsel for underwriters, banks, developers and borrowers. She advises on
financing structures using tax-exempt and taxable bonds, leases, tax credits and
other governmental incentives. She represents clients on bond-financed projects
in Virginia and nationwide. She worked on the first-ever 100-year bond issuance
in Virginia and on a cross-state bond transaction that was the largest-ever
publicly issued senior-living transaction.
