Ava Lias-Booker Inspires Next Generation of Lawyers

March 5, 2021

McGuireWoods Baltimore partner Ava Lias-Booker, a seasoned trial and appellate lawyer who chairs the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and serves on the firm’s Associates Committee, recently shared her passion for the law with students at two universities.

On March 3, 2021, Ava was a guest speaker for the popular Foundations in Business Law program of introductory classes at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Ava, who recently was appointed to the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center’s operating board of directors, gave students an inviting peek into the world of corporate and commercial litigation.

The George Washington University’s undergraduate chapter of the GW Black Law Student Association invited Ava on Feb. 24 for a "Coffee With a Lawyer" virtual event. Ava shared with the students some highlights from her career journey and fielded questions to help inform their own career decisions.

Ava chairs the firm’s Baltimore litigation group and is the office’s former managing partner. In 2020, American Lawyer Media’s Corporate Counsel magazine selected Ava for its Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards recognizing accomplished women attorneys at law firms and in-house legal departments across the country. Ava was recognized in the innovative leadership category, honoring women who have developed new strategies to effect change in the legal industry.
