Ava Lias-Booker, a seasoned trial and appellate lawyer who chairs the firm’s Diversity
& Inclusion Committee and serves on the firm’s Associates Committee,
recently shared her passion for the law with students at two universities.
On March 3, 2021, Ava was a guest speaker for the popular Foundations in
Business Law program of introductory classes at the University of Maryland
Francis King Carey School of Law. Ava, who recently was appointed to the
University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center’s operating board of
directors, gave students an inviting peek into the world of corporate and
The George Washington University’s undergraduate chapter of the GW Black
Law Student Association invited Ava on Feb. 24 for a "Coffee With a Lawyer"
virtual event. Ava shared with the students some highlights from her career
journey and fielded questions to help inform their own career decisions.
Ava chairs the firm’s Baltimore litigation group and is the office’s former
managing partner. In 2020, American Lawyer Media’s Corporate Counsel magazine selected Ava for its Women, Influence
& Power in Law Awards recognizing accomplished women attorneys at law
firms and in-house legal departments across the country. Ava was recognized
in the innovative leadership category, honoring women who have developed
new strategies to effect change in the legal industry.
