McGuireWoods Partners With NVLSP for Virginia Beach Military Pro Bono Clinic

November 18, 2019

On Nov. 7, McGuireWoods lawyers partnered with the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) in a pro bono legal clinic for retired and active-duty military members stationed in Virginia Beach. The firm assisted approximately 20 clients on matters related to disability, retirement and benefits.

Held at the Little Creek Chiefs Club, the clinic for U.S. Special Operations Command Warrior Care Coalition Members stationed in and around Joint Base Little Creek-Fort Story Virginia Beach began with an NVLSP presentation on the Integrated Disability Evaluation System process. Afterward, service members met individually with the volunteer lawyers to ask questions and discuss specifics of their cases.

McGuireWoods volunteers included Norfolk partner and office pro bono leader Rob McFarland; Norfolk associates Sarah Hawley, Jeanne Noonan and Joseph Wilson; and Washington, D.C., partner and McGuireWoods Veteran Lawyers Network chair John Thompson.

“The military is so important here, such a big part of our life, culture and economy,” McFarland said. “The chance to do pro bono work like this is a wonderful opportunity.”
