On Feb. 17, the courthouse in Charles City County, Virginia, was renamed in honor of Iona W. Adkins, the first African-American to be elected to a court of record in the United States since Reconstruction of the South.
Adkins’ granddaughter — McGuireWoods Consulting assistant vice president Kaci M. Easley (right) — attended the ceremony with McGuireWoods partner Jackie Stone (left), whose father, the late Judge William “Bill” Stone, served on the Charles City County bench during Adkins’ 21-year tenure as circuit court clerk.
